William Clark

Meriwether Lewis

In the summer of 1804 the Corps of Northwest Discovery, commanded by Meriwether Lewis & William Clark, passed through the region of the middle Missouri river in North America.  Today, Discovery Corps Inc., re-creates those men and their equipment in films, parades, and encampments.  Discovery Corps carries the 15 star, 15 stripe American national Flag of 1797, the Star Spangled Banner, which inspired our National Anthem.  The Discovery Corps, like the original expedition, is equipped with flintlock rifles and muskets.  The volunteer re-enactors of The Corps dress in the uniforms and clothing of 1804 and many have assumed the actual identities of the original expedition which was comprised of American soldiers, civilians, French boatmen and half-breeds.   The Discovery Corps was formed in 1984.   Membership is open to all men interested in the early history of this region.
